What is cross contamination? Chemicals With cleaning products or any other chemicals are near food it can become unsafe. It is unsafe if we have chemicals near food because it can get mistaken for a drink. To prevent chemical contamination we should read the safety instructions and store chemicals well away from food. Natural toxins Natural toxins are toxins produced in food such as potatoes. when potatoes are exposed to light they then turn green, they produce toxins. Fish and other seafood can build up toxins if the fish ate algae or if they ate other fish that contain toxins. Foreign matter Foreign matter is when matter such as hair, jewellery, glass, dead insects and pieces of metal can also get its way into food. To prevent this from happening we can tie our hair so it is out of the way, we can take all jewellery off, we can clean cooking benches and make sure no glass, dead insects or pieces of metal get into the food.
